Atlanta Falcons Pick Up Drake London's 5th Year Option
USA TODAY Sports

Drake London was a first-round selection for the Atlanta Falcons, so his contract includes a fifth-year option.

Drake London was the Falcons' first-round pick in 2022 out of USC. First-round picks are each subject to a fifth year of team control at a predetermined number. The deadline to do so is May 1st, but Atlanta made it official today.

London has been highly productive in the NFL, even with a shaky quarterback situation for most of it. When speaking about Drake London during a press conference, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris made the following statements.

"We'll keep those discussions private, but you know how we feel about Drake," stated Falcons GM Terry Fontenot. "He's a good man off the field, but he blacks out when it's time to play and when it's time to compete, and he will do anything he can to rip your face off and win the game. That's who he is, and that's what we want."

The projected total for the fifth-year option sits at $16.8 million. Falcons Terry Fontenot would speak on the option, saying "He's a stud," Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot said April 26. "He's everything we're about. Obviously, he's a good man off the field, but he blacks out when it's time to play and when it's time to compete, and he will do anything he can to rip your face off and win the game. That's who he is, and that's what we want.

"We want dudes that when we lose, they're angry and they're not okay, and they don't sleep well when we're losing. That's the kind of guy he is. We'll take a lot like that heart that Drake has. If you could do heart transplants and do it to everybody, then we'll be in good shape."

London has no doubt earned the extension. In 2022, he set a rookie franchise record with 72 receptions while racking up 866 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games, 15 of which were starts. Looking at the big picture, the extension is the most money London has made, yet the cheapest the Falcons will ever have to pay for his services. All things would indicate that London will sign a hefty deal for Atlanta in the future.
