The Atlanta Falcons are entering the 2025 NFL season as a potential sleeper contender in the NFC. A lot of their playoff hopes will rest on the arm of second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and whether or not he can take a big leap in year two.
Outside of Penix, there are other players who could further strengthen the Falcons’ chances of being a contender.
One of those players is none other than former No. 4 overall pick Kyle Pitts. The former Florida Gators’ standout tight end has been unable to live up to the hype throughout his first four NFL seasons.
While he has yet to show off the elite potential that made Atlanta take him at No. 4 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, there is still hope that he can turn things around and get his career back on track.
During OTA’s, some bad news has come out about Pitts. He’s already dealing with a foot injury that is bugging him.
NFL insider James Palmer was the first to report the news about Pitts.
“There was some curiosity regarding Falcons TE Kyle Pitts, who’s in the final year of his contract, and his absence during the first OTA,” Palmer wrote. “My understanding is Pitts is dealing with a bit of a foot issue and was in the building, just not on the field. This isn’t contract related.”
At least the contract situation isn’t causing a holdout. Hopefully, the injury will get figured out before training camp and preseason action gets underway.
Throughout his first four years with the Falcons, Pitts has played in 61 games. He has totaled 196 receptions for 2,651 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Atlanta is hoping that Pitts is gearing up for a breakout season. If he can become a dangerous weapon in the passing game, Penix would be set up in a much better position for success.
