Atlanta Falcons Set To Meet With Dynamic QB Prospect
Vasha Hunt-USA TODAY Sports

During the opening of the free agency period, the Atlanta Falcons made a bold move by actively pursuing quarterback Kirk Cousins, securing the former Vikings signal-caller with a lucrative four-year contract worth $180 million.

While Cousins’ acquisition seemingly reduces the likelihood of the Falcons selecting a quarterback early in the upcoming draft, the team’s front office remains diligent in their evaluation process.

Michael Penix Jr., the quarterback from Washington, showcased his skills impressively during his Pro Day last Thursday, catching the eye of scouts.

ESPN’s Brady Henderson reports that Penix Jr. is slated to meet with the Falcons for a pre-draft discussion.

Considered by most scouts as a prospect on the cusp of the first round, Penix Jr.’s Pro Day performance may have solidified his status as a first-round talent in the eyes of many. Demonstrating prowess both in throwing and running, the young quarterback impressed observers with a remarkable 40-yard dash time of 4.5 seconds.

During his final season at Washington, Penix Jr. amassed impressive statistics, passing for 4,906 yards while recording 36 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions. Fans can catch glimpses of his Pro Day highlights in clips shared by the NFL’s official Twitter account below.

For the Atlanta Falcons, making a move for a young quarterback would make a ton of sense. They could grow a young talent behind Cousins, who would make a fantastic mentor to any young signal caller.

Adding a talent like Michael Penix Jr. would give the Falcons a true long-term future at quarterback. Allowing him to learn from the sidelines for a few years would be extremely beneficial for him. It would help them avoid another situation like they had with Desmond Ridder of being forced to throw a rookie on the field.
