Atlanta Falcons to Select Homegrown Talent in Intriguing 2024 NFL Draft Rumor
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons have a major overhaul to do with their roster under the guidance of Raheem Morris. Since he’s a defensive specialist, he understands the importance of finding outstanding talent that can make an immediate impact on the team.

One of the areas he’ll use the draft to improve the team is the secondary. While they have the eighth overall pick in the draft, the team might opt to chase for an established QB and look to use their high draft pick to fill another position of need.

While they’re looking at all of the outstanding secondaries in the draft, there’s one man who might get the surprise nod in the early rounds of the 2024 Draft. The man in question grew up in the Falcons’ backyard and will be ecstatic to play for his hometown team.

Utah’s Cole Bishop could be a viable selection for the Atlanta Falcons

Utah safety Cole Bishop is one of the established defensive prospects of the 2024 NFL Draft. The junior, who played the entirety of his collegiate career in Utah, was a standout player at Starr’s Mill High who could play opposite Jesse Bates III in 2024.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D. Orlando Ledbetter wrote a piece on the Atlanta native’s draft combine experience, who addressed the possibility of playing for his hometown:

“Obviously it would be cool to stay close to home,” said Bishop, who is 6 feet 2 and 206 pounds.

“Clark Phillips is in Atlanta. I played with him. But I’ll be happy wherever I end up.”

The young man also highlighted his best skill that would prove useful to Morris in various situations:

“My ability to cover tight ends — I think I do that better than a lot of people.” Bishop said. “My versatility to play free (safety) and strong (safety). And my intelligence; I feel like I’m a smart player.”

Cole Bishop stood out as one of the top secondary defenders during his final year in Utah. He finished the 2023 season with 35 solo tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, and two interceptions for 10 yards.

If the Atlanta Falcons decide to use their eighth overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft on Cole Bishop, they’ll be getting a young talent who will do everything to help his hometown team win games.
