Austin Jackson OUT Multiple Weeks; Week 1 Status in Doubt
The last thing the Miami Dolphins need is an injury on the offensive line, but the injury bug has hit them already and it isn’t good.
Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network reports that Dolphins’ right tackle Austin Jackson has a lower-body injury and will miss weeks. His status for Week 1 vs the Colts is in doubt.
Austin Jackson only played in eight games in 2024 and in only two games in 2022. He is arguably the most injured player on the Dolphins roster the past three seasons, including Tua Tagovailoa.
When Austin Jackson was not in the lineup last season for those eight games, the Dolphins’ running game fell apart and never recovered. He is that important to Miami’s offense.
Miami has a major problem on its hands at this time. They have zero depth on the offensive line, especially at the tackle position.
Larry Borom was signed this offseason, and he came over from the Bears, but his track record is poor, and he has struggled in the first few weeks of training camp.
Jackson Carman, when he played last season, was awful, and Kion Smith is coming off a major injury himself.
Ryan Hayes is also on the roster, but he is unproven and again someone who has struggled thus far in camp.
I would expect the Dolphins to be looking at the waiver wire and hitting the free agent market for a backup offensive tackle.
Dolphins escape injury scare from key pass rusher Jaelan Phillips today. But I’m told RT Austin Jackson will miss ‘weeks’ in camp with lower extremity injury. The hope is he’s back Week 1 vs. Colts.

The issue is that finding a backup offensive tackle is maybe more difficult than finding a quarterback. It is literally like finding a needle in a haystack, especially this time of year, as all 32 teams are putting together their regular-season rosters.
The bigger question for Miami moving forward, though, big picture, is can you trust Austin Jackson at this point?
If Jackson is back by week 1 and plays the majority or all of the games this year, then this is just a blip in the road.
But if Jackson has another season where he plays a few games, is always injured, then you have to assume that this will be his final year in Miami and that the Dolphins will move on.
