Baker Mayfield Has Filed $12 Million Lawsuit Against Father's Company

As great as things have been on the field for Baker Mayfield this season, it appears the Bucs quarterback is in the midst of a legal battle off of it.

According to KXAN Sports in Austin, a disagreement between the former Heisman Trophy winner and his family has boiled over into the courtroom where Mayfield is reportedly seeking a repayment of the roughly $12 million that he loaned his father's business.

Mayfield's wife, Emily, and the couple's company, Team BRM are also listed as plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

Per KXAN, a "confidential settlement and release agreement" was put together in January of this year with three requests for Camwood Capital Management Group: 1). a repayment of $11.7 million plus interest beginning September 2024, 2). refinancing an existing loan to aid in the repayment and 3). granting Mayfield access to the business' records.

The lawsuit alleges that none of those conditions were met.

"To date, Camwood Capital has not repaid even one dollar under the Settlement Agreement, Defendants have failed to refinance their existing loan, and Defendants have not provided Plaintiffs with access to their books and records," the lawsuit reads. "As a result, Plaintiffs have been left with no choice but to file suit for breach of the Settlement Agreement to recover the assets improperly taken from them."

Baker and Emily claim that Baker's money was used "to cover general operating expenses (such as payroll)," and that the money was the primary source of funding for the companies. Noting that Mayfield didn't receive any equity or stake in the company for his contribution.

The Tampa QB is now seeking "no less than" $11.74 million plus interest, costs, and attorney fees, along with "any other relief that the Court deems just and proper."

Mayfield recently inked a four-year contract with the Buccaneers worth $100 million with $50 million guaranteed after putting up some impressive numbers under his single-year deal in 2023.

Through 11 games this season, Baker has the Bucs sitting second in the NFC South with a record of 5-6. He's also top 10 in the league in passing yards (2,799) and top three in passing touchdowns (24).
