Baker Mayfield 'looking forward' to having Odell Beckham Jr. back

Last fall, Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield attempted to squash the notion that his offense played better after star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a torn ACL on Oct. 25.

Mayfield did the same when speaking with reporters on Monday, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, when he said he is "looking forward to getting back to work together" with the 28-year-old playmaker.

"Anytime you’re going from Year 1 to Year 2 in the same system, you’re going to make a tremendous jump," Mayfield said of Beckham, who joined the Browns via a trade from the New York Giants in March 2019. "But I also think where we were at before his injury happened on an under-thrown ball by me — we truly didn’t have a true identity on offense at that point. And I think that took our bye week right in the middle of the season last year to really sit down and do a self-scout and for us to grow.

"I’ve talked to Odell, he’s very happy with where he’s at in the rehab process. I’m happy for him. He looks good, he feels good, and looking forward to starting where we should."

Beckham recorded 23 receptions for 319 yards with three touchdowns last season before the injury. It's been rumored Cleveland could look to trade him this offseason, but no deal has arisen ahead of the NFL Draft that opens Thursday night.
