Baker Mayfield once trash-talked his new head coach, Matt Rhule, into oblivion

Baker Mayfield is now a member of the Carolina Panthers, which means he's going to have to get to know his new head coach, Matt Rhule, pretty quickly.

It's not as if the two haven't interacted before, though. In fact, Rhule got a first-hand taste of just how competitive his new quarterback can be.

To be fair, Mayfield was in quite a different spot than he finds himself in now. Right now, he's a former No. 1 overall pick castaway by his original team within five years. Not many quarterbacks have that distinction.

At the time of this interaction with Rhule, though, Mayfield was one of the biggest names in college football and a legitimate superstar.

He had the swag and the play to back it up. That's why it's not terribly surprising that Mayfield talked some major smack to Rhule's team. He was a star quarterback and eventual Heisman Trophy quarterback on a dominant Oklahoma team. Rhule was overseeing the rebuilding of the Baylor football program, and while he did an admirable job and ultimately earned an opportunity in the NFL, he and Mayfield were stratospheres apart at that moment.

Mayfield and the Sooners backed up their smack talk on that day, as the Heisman Trophy winner threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-41 win.

Rhule saw first-hand the potential that Mayfield has when he's locked in and playing within a system.

Smack talk aside, it's now his job to try to bring that fire back out of Mayfield one more time.
