Baker Mayfield’s remarkable turnaround with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could put him in the discussion for one of the greatest career resurgences in NFL history.

After nearly being written off just a couple of years ago, Baker Mayfield’s arrival in Tampa Bay has sparked a remarkable transformation. With division titles, a playoff win, and multiple Pro Bowl appearances in just two seasons, Mayfield’s reputation in the league has soared. Now, he might be getting the ultimate seal of approval.

On his own show, The Ronde Barber Show, Buccaneers legend and Hall of Famer Ronde Barber heaped praise on Baker Mayfield, acknowledging the significant impact he’s had in Tampa since joining the team.

“The leadership qualities just jump out at you,” Barber stated. “The dude makes tough plays in tough situations. He elevates the entire team. Baker’s a top 10 quarterback for me, man. I don’t see how anybody can say otherwise.”

Barber continued,

“He’s had a new coordinator every single year of his career, including this year. And I don’t know that it matters. The guy just elevates his game to whatever level he needs it to be at.”

Baker Mayfield’s impressive past two seasons have solidified his status as an NFL elite quarterback.

Last season, Mayfield turned in a career-best performance, throwing for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 71.4. While 16 interceptions are a notable blemish, Baker’s otherwise been playing at an elite level.

Heading into the 2025 season, the Buccaneers are viewed as NFC dark horses, with some believing that with the talent surrounding Baker, a deep playoff run – potentially even a Super Bowl appearance – is within reach.

That’s high praise, but given their talent and performance, it’s hard to argue that this Buccaneers team, led by Baker Mayfield, isn’t one of the top contenders in the NFL.

Mayfield’s arsenal includes a top-tier returning starting O-line. The running game looks promising with Bucky Irving and Rachaad White. The receiving corps, led by Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, adds depth with Jalen McMillan and Emeka Egbuka.
