Baker Mayfield powered the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a dominant 30-7 win over the New York Giants on Sunday, but it was his touchdown celebration that had everyone talking.
Mayfield rumbled to the end zone on a 10-yard run just before half to push the Bucs lead to 23-0. After scoring, Mayfield appeared to troll new Giants starting quarterback Tommy DeVito, doing his patented celebration.
"Tommy DeVito out here catching strays from Baker Mayfield," Ian Rapoport of NFL Network wrote on X.
However, Mayfield said there was no ill will behind the move.
"It's not a disrespectful thing," Mayfield said with a grin. "I met Tommy at the Super Bowl last year in Las Vegas. He's got a lot of swag and the fans love him. Paying a little tribute to him."
Mayfield finished the game with 294 yards and the rushing score. The win stopped a four-game skid for the Buccaneers and Tampa Bay moved to 5-6 — still within striking distance of the NFC-South leading Atlanta Falcons (6-5).
DeVito passed for 189 yards in his season debut as the starter. The loss came after a drama-filled week, which included the Giants releasing former first-round pick Daniel Jones.
The Giants have a short week to prepare for the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Giants coach Brian Daboll confirmed after the game that DeVito would draw the start for that contest.
