Baker Mayfield continues to make it very clear that he has nothing but bad memories of his tenure with the Carolina Panthers.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4, setting up a meeting between former Panthers teammates Mayfield and Sam Darnold. During his press conference Wednesday, Mayfield said he and Darnold still remain close, but had a pretty dry response when asked if the two of them reminisce about “the good old days” in Carolina.
“Nope. No we don’t,” Mayfield said curtly.

Reporter: "Do you and Sam ever reminisce on the good old days in Carolina?"
Baker: "Uhhh. Reminisce on WHAT days?

Mayfield has negative memories of that time in Carolina. He made six starts for the Panthers in 2022 and lost five of them, though he did very little to impress during that stint. Darnold was better off, going 4-2 for a team that wound up going 7-10.
Both Mayfield and Darnold have gone on to be successful starters elsewhere, so it makes sense that Mayfield, at least, would hold some resentment toward the Panthers. It doesn’t hurt that he gets to play them twice a year in NFC South play.
