Baker Mayfield told Browns he wants to be traded to Colts?

Baker Mayfield clearly won't be playing for the Browns next season after they acquired Deshaun Watson via trade Friday afternoon, and it looks like he may have his eyes set on another AFC squad.

Mayfield's preference would be to be traded to the Colts, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic. Indianapolis has interest in Mayfield but has not yet discussed a deal with Cleveland, per NFL Network's James Palmer.

It makes sense that the Colts would be interested in Mayfield, as they're one of a handful teams left with a glaring need at the position. The Saints, Panthers and Seahawks are also believed to be in the mix for a new QB, but other teams could be looking in private as well.

Mayfield is likely the top option publicly available as well, as free agents like Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota likely don't present the same potential, and most of the quarterbacks believed to be on the trade block have been moved already.

Wherever Mayfield does land, he'll provide solid quarterback play and a fiery personality as his new team's leader. Over four seasons in the NFL, he led the Browns to playoffs once in 2020 and was in the mix for a spot last season at 8-9.

Over 60 career regular-season games, Mayfield has a 61.6 percent completion rate and has thrown for 14,125 yards, 92 touchdowns and 56 interceptions. In 2021, he logged 3,010 yards, 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions over 14 games while playing through injuries.
