Baltimore Prepared All Week Before Aubrey Block

In a later press conference, Jackson talked about how the block came from seeing a hole in Dallas’ special team unit that he could exploit.

“I was watching tape the whole week, and [we knew] that we could get something up. Keyon [Martin] did a great job of opening up the edge [and] getting off the ball. ‘T-Rob’ [Tavius Robinson] and the interior guys did a great job on their part. The coaches called up a good play. [I] came off the edge, fired off and made the block.”

It was a funny role reversal after Baltimore had its own field goal blocked in its loss to the Saints. The Ravens appeared to place additional emphasis on special teams during their preparation for Dallas, something Jesse Minter discussed after the game.

 “Ryan [Eckley] did a nice job battling through an illness. This guy is hitting some really good punts and having a game-winning hold [while] battling through a little bit of an illness there. I thought our punt return game, the one real opportunity that we had set up a huge, huge return — a 20-plus-yard return — that allowed the offense to have good field position on the go-ahead touchdown drive. So all in all, [I’m] really happy with special teams. Keondre Jackson — a dominant special teams player — making a huge impact blocking a field goal. So, [it was] great to see.”

Tyler Loop’s 56-yard game-winning field goal is deservedly getting most of the attention, but Jackson’s block deserves plenty of praise as well. It ended a Dallas scoring opportunity and gave Baltimore possession on a drive that eventually resulted in a touchdown, making it one of the most important special-teams plays of the afternoon.
