Baltimore Ravens All-Pro Named NFL’s Most ‘Overrated’ At His Position
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Marlon Humphrey is among the centerpieces of a Baltimore Ravens defense that led the charge to the AFC Championship Game, but not everyone believes he’s still an elite player.

Humphrey, 27,  is coming off a 26-tackle 2023 campaign with just one interception.

Entering his eighth season since being chosen No. 16 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, Humphrey is set to count $22.8 million against the cap in 2024, though some are skeptical that he can return to his All-Pro Form.

Baltimore Ravens’ Marlon Humphrey Among NFL’s Most Overrated?

The combination of age and injuries, raises questions about Humphrey’s upside, according to some NFL analysts.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay put together a list naming the most overrated player at each position, with Humphrey earning the dubious distinction at defensive back.

“Between 2020 and 2022, Humphrey gave up 161 catches for 1,906 yards and 12 touchdowns across 269 targets,” Kay points out for Bleacher Report. “This past year was the first season since 2018 that Humphrey allowed a completion rate lower than 53.6 percent. Although he did improve in coverage last year, Humphrey was only available for 10 games—the fewest he’s played since his sophomore season in 2018—due to various injuries.

“There’s a chance that Humphrey could bounce back by staying healthy and locking down opposing pass-catchers in 2024, but he hasn’t managed to accomplish both of those in a season for quite some time. Considering how much money he’s making each year, that should be an annual occurrence, not a rarity.”

For the Ravens, having Humphrey playing the 2024 season with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove could soften the blow from losing significant talent on that side of the ball over the course of the offseason, especially if he returns to the top form that helped him become a three-time Pro Bowler.
