Baltimore Ravens Announce Death of Former Super Bowl Champion at 39

Few franchises have matched the Baltimore Ravens’ blend of sustained success, defensive identity and front-office stability since their 1996 debut in the NFL.

With two Super Bowl titles, a reputation for developing stars through the draft, and a culture built on physicality and discipline, the Ravens have become a model of consistency in a league defined by turnover. From Ray Lewis and Ed Reed to Lamar Jackson and Roquan Smith, Baltimore has maintained its edge through generational talent and smart roster construction. Head coach John Harbaugh continues to anchor one of the NFL’s most resilient operations, backed by a front office that rarely misses.

One of Baltimore’s best moments as an organization came in 2013 when the Ravens took home Super Bowl XLVII in a 34–31 win over the San Francisco 49ers. A huge reason for the Ravens’ victory was defensive lineman Arthur Jones. He had a significant impact on the game, recording one sack and one fumble recovery, earning his only career Super Bowl ring.

Unfortunately, the Ravens took to social media to announce that Jones has passed away at the age of 39. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta released a statement which read, “We are terribly saddened to learn of Arthur Jones' sudden passing. Arthur's presence was a gift to everyone he encountered. His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others. He was kind, courteous and enthusiastic — always displaying a love for family, teammates and friends. We send our deepest condolences to the Jones family and all who loved Arthur.”

Jones was selected by the Ravens in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Syracuse and spent four seasons with the organization. During his time in Baltimore, he appeared in 46 games, recording 120 total tackles, 8.5 sacks and 22 quarterback hits. Jones went on to appear for the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins before retiring in 2018.
