Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson sets Week 1 deadline for contract extension talks with the team

It's no secret that the Baltimore Ravens and star quarterback Lamar Jackson want to work out a long-term contract extension.

However, with the 2022 regular season quickly approaching, Jackson has implemented a deadline for negotiations.

On Saturday, reporters asked Jackson whether it was fair to assume he wanted a deal done before Week 1 which the quarterback responded, "yeah, sure."

"We're coming up to it. It's coming up," Jackson said of the deadline. "The season's coming up. We're going to be good for the season."

While Jackson didn't say much else about the status of the negotiations, head coach John Harbaugh was optimistic things would eventually get hashed out.

"I'm very confident that it will get done when it gets done," Harbaugh said. "You can't really rush it. I don't think either side wants to rush anything; both sides want to be happy when it's all said and done, and probably both sides are unhappy when it's all said and done, to some degree, right? That's kind of how it works."

Early this week, Outkick's Jason Cole reported that Jackson was seeking a fully guaranteed contract worth more than the $230 million the Cleveland Browns paid quarterback Deshaun Watson.
