The Baltimore Ravens and quarterback Lamar Jackson will be taking the field on Sunday night against the Buffalo Bills. The Ravens are ready to wipe out the feelings of 2024 NFL playoffs heartbreak against the AFC East champions. In the divisional round of the 2024 playoffs, the Bills recorded a 27-25 win against the Ravens.

So, to get into their first matchup of the 2025 NFL season, the Ravens are pulling up their socks to break their playoff curse. However, before the team departs for Highmark Stadium, the Ravens received an unfortunate update after cornerback Jaire Alexander's (knee) and fullback Patrick Ricard's (soft tissue) injury reports on Monday. Neither player practiced.

On Wednesday morning, NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport broke another concerning update on X, saying, “#Ravens TE Isaiah Likely, who is recovering nicely from a broken bone in his foot, is not expected to play in the team’s opener against the #Bills, sources say.” He also added that the star tight end should be ready early in the season.

Ravens to Miss Isaiah Likely's Dynamic Presence on Offense Amid Recovery from Foot Injury

Actually, in his press conference on Monday, head coach John Harbaugh addressed the rumors surrounding Alexander, Likely and Ricard. He said, “If they haven’t practiced, they’re unlikely to play, unless they’ve been playing all the way up to that point, then maybe they’ll play." Alexander and Ricard have not practiced since Aug. 9 and Aug. 14, respectively. But in Likely's case, fans had hoped he could be active at Sunday's game. And there is a reason fans and the team wanted him to play in Week 1.

In 2024 , Likely touched the ball in the end zone six times while covering 477 yards with 42 receptions. In the playoff game against the Bills, Likely had one touchdown and caught four passes for 73 yards on five targets.

In last year's opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, Likely enjoyed his best game of the season, pulling down nine passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. He was ready to deliver a similar performance for the upcoming season's first game until suffering a foot injury.

Likely sustained a small fracture in his foot during training camp. Per DraftSharks, he had a pedal foot fracture on his right foot. Likely's doesn't have an extensive injury history. His last injury was on Nov. 25, 2022. Per DraftSharks' injury database, Likely was ruled out on Saturday, Nov. 26, after suffering an injury in practice.

Now, there is not too much uncertainty about his return to the gridiron. As Ian Rapoport reported, after doing the necessary surgery, Likely should to return early this season.

The Ravens visit the Bills at 8:20 p.m. ET Sunday on NBC.
