Barkley's Season Gives 'Middle Finger' to Giants

The 2024 season has largely been defined by the players who have made the biggest impact on their new teams. Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels headlined a historic crop of rookie passers, and Derrick Henry helped make the Baltimore Ravens look unstoppable until the Divisional Round.

Chief among the newcomers was Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley.

In his first year after leaving the New York Giants, Barkley ran for 2,000 yards and made a mockery of defenses hoping to slow him down in the NFC playoff picture.

New York’s season ended with a 3-14 record and the No. 3 pick. Barkley has helped bring Philadelphia to the Super Bowl.

On the “McCoy & Van Noy” podcast, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy sounded off on Barkley’s “middle finger” to the Giants and how it manifests itself in his game.

"I just want to give my kudos to Saquon. How he's handled this whole situation has been just first-class," Van Noy said. "Always love to the Giants, but he's like, you know what, I got a new family. I got the Eagles. I'm gonna put the Eagles on my back like I did the Giants ... and go all the way.

"He's used this year as a middle finger year," he added. "I literally see that in his play, the enthusiasm he has each and every time he gets the ball."

The world got to see how Barkley’s departure went down thanks to an offseason episode of “Hard Knocks” that might define general manager Joe Schoen’s career. Citing positional value, he was happy to let the running back test the market in search for a lucrative deal.

The Eagles quickly offered him three years and $37.75 million, and the rest was history.

Barkley’s regular season ended one game and 101 yards shy of breaking the single-season rushing record. In the playoffs, he’s somehow been even more dominant, rushing for 22 more yards per game and scoring five touchdowns in three weeks.

His enthusiasm, as Van Noy noted, has been on full display, too. It helps that he keeps rushing for incredibly long touchdowns, but it seems like each one concludes with a joyous celebration topping his best days in New York.

Fair or not, Schoen and the Giants can only play spectator to Barkley’s reign of terror. Hoping he leaves them far enough out of sight may be the only way through the mess they’ve created.
