Ryan Poles has done it again. Just when everyone thought the Chicago Bears missed out on all the top wide receivers in free agency, Poles pulls off a massive trade. According to multiple reports, and first reported by Jay Glazer, the Bears have acquired WR Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers for a 2024 4th-round pick.

The Chargers entered the offseason as one of the teams needing to create cap space. First, they released WR Mike Williams to get below the salary cap. Then, the Chargers restructured the contracts of pass rushers Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack to create additional cap space.

However, the Chargers also approached Allen about his deal and taking a pay cut. When Allen declined, the deal was ultimately made sending him to Chicago.

Now, Allen will join DJ Moore, Cole Kmet, and new additions D'Andre Swift and Gerald Everett on the Bears' offense. Ideally, Ryan Poles is building a strong offense around whoever is playing quarterback in Chicago, whether that is Justin Fields or Caleb Williams.

In 2023, Allen only played 13 games but still hauled in 108 catches for 1,243 yards and 7 touchdowns. Despite turning 32 heading into the NFL Draft, Allen has still been a productive receiver. Over the course of his career, Allen has racked up 10,530 receiving yards.

Since he was traded, the Chargers will keep some dead cap money on their books. To the Bears, Allen will carry a $23.1 million cap hit in 2024.

With the trade, the Bears also only have four draft picks remaining in the upcoming draft. They currently own no. 1 and no. 9 in the first round, while owning a 3rd- and 4th-round pick as well.

The Bears are uncertain on who will play quarterback this season. However, between the investments made in the weapons on offense and their offensive line, whoever is playing quarterback next season will have one of the better Bears offenses in recent memory at their disposal.
