Bears Activate LB Noah Sewell

Bears linebacker Noah Sewell has not played in a game since he tore his Achilles in Week 17 last year, but he could make his return on Sunday in Green Bay. The Bears have activated Sewell from the reserve/PUP list and elevated running back Zavier Scott from the practice squad, the team announced.

Sewell, a 2023 fifth-round pick from Oregon, played almost exclusively on special teams during his first two seasons. He combined for just 32 defensive snaps over 22 games in that stretch, but the 6-foot-1, 246-pounder took on a far bigger role last year. With Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards combining to miss 11 games, Sewell made the first nine starts of his career. Before succumbing to the Achilles injury, he racked up 59 tackles (three TFL) in 13 games.

The Bears opened Sewell’s practice window on Sept. 23, meaning they had to activate him by Oct. 14. If he makes his season debut Sunday, Sewell will serve as a backup behind Edwards and Devin Bush.

Likewise, Scott will provide extra depth at his position. The Bears lead the NFL in rushing (196.3 yards per game), but they have ruled Kyle Monangai out with thumb and toe injuries. Scott, who went undrafted in 2023, saw his first regular-season action with the NFC North rival Vikings last year and ran for 114 yards on 32 carries. He’ll give the Bears a third option behind D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson against the division-rival Packers.

Notably, Chicago did not activate defensive lineman Shemar Turner or cornerback Kyler Gordon from reserve/PUP on Saturday. Turner, who tore his ACL last October, returned to practice the same day as Sewell. The Bears only have a few more days to activate Turner, while they have until Oct. 21 to reinstate Gordon.

Since Gordon became the league’s highest-paid nickel corner in April 2025, he has played just three games. A calf injury sidelined Gordon for all of training camp and the preseason, leading to uncertainty over whether he will play this year. However, in a clear sign of progress, Gordon returned to practice on Sept. 30.
