Chicago kicks off camp with roster shake-ups and strategic signings on defense.
Today marks the start of Chicago Bears training camp, and the excitement is undeniable as football is officially back. While players hit the field in anticipation of a long season ahead, the action isn’t limited to the gridiron. Behind the scenes, general manager Ryan Poles continues to shape the roster, making moves that could pay dividends when the games start to matter.
According to ChicagoBears.com, the team announced two notable additions to its defense: defensive back Tre Flowers and defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon. These moves reflect a clear strategy to add experience and versatility to both the secondary and the defensive front.
Flowers, a seven-year veteran, has appeared in 95 career games with 44 starts since being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2018. His résumé includes 270 tackles, 22 passes defended, four interceptions, and 10 postseason appearances. Known for his physical style and ability to match up against big receivers and tight ends, Flowers brings valuable depth to a secondary that will need reliability heading into camp.
On the defensive line, Kpassagnon adds size and championship pedigree after eight NFL seasons with Kansas City and New Orleans. A former second-round pick, he has logged 104 games, 16.5 sacks, and 42 quarterback hits. His playoff experience includes six starts and a Super Bowl LIV ring, making him a steady presence in the trenches.
The team has been searching for a boost, especially along the defensive line, and these latest moves signal a strong commitment to adding depth and versatility where it’s needed most, particularly with the injury to starting cornerback Jaylon Johnson.
In addition to these signings, Chicago activated wide receiver Jahdae Walker and running back Ian Wheeler from the Non-Football Injury list. With camp underway in Lake Forest—the home of Halas Hall—the Bears are setting the tone early for a competitive summer.
