The start of the 2026 NFL season hasn’t gone according to plan for Colston Loveland. Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Press Taylor admitted that the second-year tight end was particularly disappointed last week.
Loveland end recorded just one reception or three yards last Sunday against Minnesota Vikings. It was his first catch of the campaign after failing to record one in the season opener versus the Carolina Panthers. Loveland entered the season with a lot of hype surrounding, especially coming off his impressive rookie run. He registered 58 receptions for 713 yards and six touchdowns, proving that the Bears made the right decision to draft him at No. 10 overall.
Chicago is looking to bounce back from the 9-3 Week 2 loss. However, the team will likely sit Caleb Williams as he continues to recover from the hamstring injury he suffered last Sunday. Tyson Bagent is experiencing concussion symptoms, and analysts expect the team to name Case Keenum as its QB1.
Taylor stressed that the Bears’ Week 2 loss disappointed Loveland. He added that all of their players understand their roles and it’s just a matter of delivering during games.
“Every single week all of our guys have their primary plays,” Taylor said. “We have played two games. I think he was disappointed last week because we lost the game.”

The good news is it’s still early in the season. Loveland the Chicago have a lot of games left to live up to expectations and continue silencing their critics starting on Monday versus the Philadelphia Eagles. However, their upcoming schedule is challenging, with a two-game road trip after a Week 4 clash with the New York Jets at home. The Bears will face their rivals, the Green Bay Packers, the following week at Lambeau Field.
