Bears Could Trade No. 1 Pick Before NFL Free Agency
Daniel Bartel-USA TODAY Sports

Is Ryan Poles that gutsy?

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles spoke to reporters Tuesday regarding the team's offseason approach. One particularly fascinating possibility Poles mentioned, was that he would not rule out trading the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft before free agency begins on March 15.

Ryan Poles Could Make the Gutsy Call

When it comes to the first overall pick in the NFL Draft (thanks Lovie), the Chicago Bears have endless possibilities. They could select Jalen Carter with the pick or trade down as most experts seem to believe will happen.

Poles is keeping his options open, and with great anticipation too. He said there are several scenarios where it actually benefits the Bears to trade the pick before free agency begins on March 15.

Such a scenario could give the Bears several roster-building options. Netting a haul of picks would allow set them up to cash in on multiple levels of talent come draft weekend. Alternatively, the Bears could actually acquire players in return for the No. 1 pick, which would clarify the thought process behind their specific draft needs.

Lastly, Ryan Poles could turn the accrual of picks into more picks or already-proven players. Either way, Poles is sticking to his vision of building the Chicago Bears the way he wants to. And until we see how that plays out, in the GM we must trust!
