Bears' David Montgomery cleared from concussion protocol, can play at Packers

The Chicago Bears revealed some positive news to fans ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

As Jeff Dickerson reported for ESPN, running back David Montgomery confirmed to reporters on Wednesday that he has cleared the concussion protocol and expects to play in Sunday's divisional showdown at the Green Bay Packers.

Montgomery, a 2019 third-round draft pick, leads the Bears with 472 rushing yards, 131 carries, and 27 rushing first downs. The 23-year-old has also contributed 30 catches for 212 yards and two total touchdowns this season.

Montgomery was sidelined by the concussion during the 24-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Nov. 8 and missed the Nov. 16 contest against the Minnesota Vikings that Chicago dropped to fall to 5-5 on the season ahead of the bye week.

"I've never had one this severe," Montgomery said of the concussion when discussing his health with the media. "It was definitely different, but I'm fine now. We went through the protocol. The training staff has been great with me, being sure that I come back when I'm ready. It was definitely something different for me. It's just good to be back."

The Bears are second in the NFC North standings, one game ahead of the Vikings and Detroit Lions (4-6), and two games behind the Packers (7-3) in the race for the division crown.
