Bears DBs are gunning for a rare accomplishment that has eluded every player to play for a Dennis Allen-led defense

The Chicago Bears will kick off training camp in one day and expectations continue to rise for what this team could possibly look to achieve in 2025.

Head coach Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Dennis Allen have inspired some much needed confidence back into this locker room that has multiple players looking to chase some major milestones this season.

For example, Johnson has already noted quarterback Caleb Williams has the ability in 2025 to become the first Bears QB to eclipse 4,000 passing yards in a season.

On the defensive side of the ball, a few of Allen's standout players in the secondary are gunning for a milestone no other player has ever achieved in his system.

While speaking with Cassie Carlson, Bears safety Jaquan Brisker laid out some of his stat goals for the 2025 season, and one lined up with what two other defensive backs noted.

"Jaylon [Johnson] said he wants seven interceptions and 10 total turnovers. Tyrique [Stevenson] said he thought he could get seven because he has seven tattooed on his wrist," Carlson explained in her question.

"I want to say 8+ interceptions, 10+ PBUs, 4+ sacks, and over 100 tackles," Brisker responded.

Brisker obviously took the lofty goals to a much higher level but it's interesting all three defensive backs mentioned the same number of interceptions they're gunning to surpass. Seven interceptions alone would be a career-high for each player, in fact Johnson and Stevenson each set a career-high in interceptions with four in 2023. Meanwhile, Brisker has three in his entire career.

But, they will be playing in a much more aggressive scheme in 2025 under Allen with more opportunities to take the ball away.

Because of that, I decided to take a step back and see if any player playing for Allen's scheme had ever reached that mark before, and here's what I found out.

Most Single-Season INTs Under Dennis Allen

  1. Marshon Lattimore: 5 INTs in 2017
  2. Tyrann Mathieu: 4 INTs in 2023
  3. Paulson Adebo: 4 INTs in 2023
  4. Marcus Williams: 4 INTs in 2019
  5. Marcus Williams: 4 INTs in 2017
  6. Charles Woodson: 4 INTs in 2014

Clearly getting to seven is going to be a rare accomplishment that no player has ever done in Allen's system. Marshon Lattimore is the closest to come to it during his rookie season with five interceptions to help win Defensive Rookie of the Year.

I will also note that in 2021, Allen's defense had four defensive backs record three interceptions (Adebo, Lattimore, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and P.J. Williams).

It's always good to have high goals, especially similar goals within the locker room to push each other to be great on the field. But, this one seems pretty unlikely for the Bears defensive backs. Although, you can never say never.
