The Chicago Bears are expected to make another move one day before the official start of the new league year in free agency.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo , the Bears are expected to agree to terms with defensive back Jonathan Owens. The signing is expected to be a 2-year deal worth $4.5 million, per Aaron Wilson.
Owens spent the 2023 season with the Green Bay Packers and made 11 starts during the regular season, including Week 18's win against the Bears.

This is the second signing the Bears have made at the safety position after moving on from Eddie Jackson and Owens will provide some young depth behind recently signed safety Kevin Byard.
Owens totaled 84 tackles, two tackles for a loss, and had one interception returned for a touchdown in Week 11 against the Detroit Lions for the Packers last season. According to Pro Football Focus, Owens was targeted 38 times in coverage, allowing 26 receptions for 269 yards and four touchdowns. In Chicago, Owens will get the benefit of playing behind a former All-Pro in the secondary.
The addition of Owens in free agency also will bring some star celebrity power to the Bears' sideline. Owens is married to Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, who is considered the most decorated American gymnast in history.

Biles was present at numerous Packers' games during the 2023 season cheering on her husband from the stands. The Kansas City Chiefs learned what star power in the stands could bring to the team with Taylor Swift last season and now the Bears unintentionally bring in a top fan of their own.

Owens will join the rest of the Bears' secondary that consists of Jaquan Brisker, Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, and Tyrique Stevenson. Together, the unit was tied for a league-leading 22 interceptions in 2023.
