The Chicago Bears will look to bounce back in Week 6 when they travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. After a disappointing Week 5 performance, Chicago has plenty to prove, particularly on defense. Both teams are coming off losses and have questions to answer defensively, but their offenses have the firepower to make this a high-scoring affair. Expect both offenses to attack favorable matchups and put pressure on opposing defenses from the opening kickoff.
Chicago’s secondary will likely face another challenging afternoon, but Atlanta’s banged-up defensive backfield gives the Bears an opportunity to exploit some favorable matchups of their own. This game has the potential to turn into a shootout in the Deep South, with both teams capable of putting points on the board in a hurry. Ultimately, the Bears have a few advantages that could help them keep pace offensively and pull away in a game that might come down to which defense can make a critical stop.
Ben Johnson saw what the Baltimore Ravens did against this vulnerable Falcons front seven and should have a blueprint for attacking it. Although Chicago doesn’t have a Derrick Henry, the Bears do have a stout offensive line that is arguably stronger than Baltimore’s. Johnson is one of the NFL’s top offensive minds, and he won’t let this offense struggle on the ground in consecutive weeks.
The Bears also have advantages at receiver, as Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III will face a Falcons secondary dealing with numerous injuries. Both could be in for big days, provided the offensive line keeps the quarterback upright. That won’t be an easy task, though, as Atlanta boasts one of the highest pressure rates in the NFL. If Chicago can protect the quarterback and establish the run, it should have plenty of opportunities to exploit the Falcons’ defense.
The Atlanta offense should have plenty of opportunities to take deep shots against a struggling Bears secondary. Chicago has surrendered too many big plays this season, and after three strong defensive performances, the unit’s weaknesses resurfaced in a major way in Week 5. The defense has something to prove, but Atlanta’s offensive weapons present a difficult challenge.
Drake London, Bijan Robinson, and Kyle Pitts can keep Chicago’s secondary on its heels throughout the afternoon. It could be a long day for the Bears defense if it can’t keep everything in front of it. Even then, limiting explosive plays might not be enough to slow Atlanta’s offense entirely. Chicago’s biggest priority must be preventing the Falcons from consistently breaking off big gains. Can the Bears tighten up defensively enough to get the job done?
