Bears Hire Jason Houghtaling as Assistant Offensive Line Coach
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears are adding another assistant coach to Matt Eberflus's staff, this time along the offensive line. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Bears are hiring Jason Houghtaling as an assistant offensive line coach.

Who Is Jason Houghtaling?

Houghtaling spent the last three seasons with the Tennessee Titans. He was hired in 2021 as an assistant offensive line coach before taking over as the sole offensive line coach in 2023.

Most of his coaching career was spent at the collegiate level. Houghtaling's experience dates back to 2006 when he began coaching running backs for Wagner. He also spent time with the offensive line at Wagner before leaving for the offensive coordinator position at Williams.

But Houghtaling returned after only one year to become the offensive coordinator for Wagner. After one season, he left for the same position at Cornell, but that didn't work out.

He returned to Wagner as OC once again and after one year was promoted to head coach until 2019. After that tenure was finished, he spent one year with Colgate coaching the offensive line.

Once arriving at the NFL level, Houghtaling stayed in place. The Titans' offensive line provided enough of a buffer for star running back Derrick Henry to prevail. But heading into the final week of the 2023 regular season, the Titans were ranked last in overall offensive line.

They'd surrendered seven sacks to the Houston Texans in the week prior, and after an upset victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18, Tennessee parted ways with Houghtaling.

The Bears are nearly done finalizing their staff as the offseason continues so Eberflus can get to work on the next step.
