Bears' Justin Fields receives ultimate compliment from 49ers DPOY

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has received the ultimate compliment from San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa.

Fields had an electric second NFL season and made league history in Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins. During the 35-32 loss, Fields set a single-game record for rushing yards by a quarterback (178), while adding a touchdown on his 15 carries.

The 24-year-old also went 17-for-28 with 123 passing yards and three touchdowns and zero interceptions that day, good for a 106.7 quarterback rating.

Bosa's words come despite Fields actually having one of his quietest games of the year on the ground against the Niners in Week 1 when he rushed 11 times for only 28 yards. During his rookie year in 2021, however, Fields picked up his first career 100-yard game in just his sixth NFL start, rushing for 103 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries in a loss to San Francisco.

The former 11th overall pick began the 2022 campaign slowly but caught fire in his final seven contests from Weeks 9-17. Fields had 10 touchdown passes and five interceptions, with a pair of games with quarterback ratings of over 100 (and four over 90) during the stretch.

The former two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year also had three games with at least 130 rushing yards and produced five of his eight rushing scores during his last seven games of the campaign. Fields ended the year with 160 rushing attempts for 1,143 yards in 15 contests, becoming just the third quarterback in league history to run for over 1,000 yards.

Bosa's words are particularly notable, as he's undoubtedly one of the premier defenders in the game.

In four seasons, the 25-year-old has already racked up three Pro Bowl nods, a first-team All-Pro honor and the 2019 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Bosa capped off perhaps his best year to date with the AP Defensive Player of the Year award in 2022.
