Bears Outlast Panthers in Wild 59-37 Shootout

The Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers delivered one of the wildest games of Week 1, with Chicago eventually pulling away for a 59-37 victory at Bank of America Stadium. The game featured explosive plays, huge offensive performances and enough points to make it a true shootout.

Bryce Young Keeps Panthers In It

Despite the loss, Bryce Young turned in one of the better performances of his career.

Young completed 23 of 37 passes for 361 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for a score. He repeatedly made big throws down the field, keeping Carolina within striking distance for much of the afternoon.

Jalen Coker was Young’s biggest weapon, finishing with eight catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns. His 51-yard touchdown reception helped Carolina erase an early deficit and keep the game tied at 21.

Chuba Hubbard also found the end zone twice, giving the Panthers plenty of offensive firepower.

Caleb Williams And Bears Answer Every Time

Chicago’s offense simply had too many answers.

Caleb Williams finished with 269 passing yards and two touchdowns, while adding two rushing touchdowns and 65 yards on the ground. His ability to extend plays and create with his legs caused problems for Carolina throughout the afternoon.

D’Andre Swift was arguably the biggest difference-maker. He rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns, including a 28-yard score late in the fourth quarter that effectively put the game away.

Rookie Kyle Monangai also provided a huge spark with a 61-yard touchdown run, helping Chicago continue its explosive second-half attack.

Panthers Defense Couldn’t Keep Up

While Carolina’s offense produced 37 points, the defense couldn’t slow down Chicago.

The Bears finished with 552 total yards, including a dominant 300-plus yards on the ground. Carolina repeatedly struggled with missed tackles, blown coverages and costly penalties.

The Panthers had several opportunities to get stops, but Chicago continued converting important third downs and finding big plays whenever Carolina appeared ready to make a comeback.

A Shootout To Remember

The Panthers and Bears traded punches throughout the first half, entering halftime with Chicago holding a 31-24 advantage.

Carolina tied the game at 31 early in the third quarter, but the Bears responded with back-to-back touchdowns and began pulling away.

Chicago’s offense eventually pushed the lead beyond reach, scoring 59 points while Carolina’s late touchdowns weren’t enough to spark another comeback.

The final score also created a rare piece of NFL history: 59-37 had never previously occurred in an NFL game, making the shootout a Scorigami.

For Carolina, the offense provides plenty of reasons for optimism. But if the Panthers want to compete this season, the defense will have to improve quickly after giving up 59 points in the opener.

The Panthers fall to 0-1, while the Bears leave Charlotte 1-0 after surviving one of the craziest games of Week 1.
