Bears Release Video Confirming 'Perfect Day' at the NFL Draft
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears played the lead role in this year's NFL Draft and late Thursday, the team gave its fans a behind the scenes glimpse into how it all went down.

"Behind the Bears' Path to the NFL Draft" is almost forty minutes of footage showcasing how the offseason has gone for the Bears. We saw how the staff was able to evaluate talent at the pro days and the draft combine, and also how the thought process went into deciding who they were ultimately going to draft.

The video all but confirms that once they were awarded the number one overall pick, Ryan Poles and staff knew they were going to be drafting USC quarterback Caleb Williams. The audience got a glimpse of what the Bears' scouts thought of the highly-touted quarterback, hearing it straight from one of their lead scouts:

“This is the prototype new-age quarterback who is a high level competitor. Flashes rare talent with his arm, capable of making throws from multiple arm angles at all three levels. He could play within the pocket or out of the pocket. Very good touch and accuracy on all three levels. Dangerous runner who can get the first down with his feet consistently. This guy will be an eventual top five QB in the league. His combination of his ability, competitiveness, and desire to win makes him rare.” - Francis Saint Paul, Senior National Scout

To be frank, this isn't news. Just about everyone knew Williams was going to be the top pick. What this video did provide however, was insight that the Bears were just as nervous as their fans were when the draft started falling in their favor at number 9. We got to see Ryan Poles, who is normally very calm and reserved, start to look tense and nervous as he is trying to figure out who the Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, and then Atlanta Falcons in front of him were going to draft.

The picture of Ryan Poles' reaction after Atlanta took Michael Penix Jr. has already made it's rounds on social media. The visual around Ryan was everyone in the room congratulating each other and sharing high fives.

Coming into the NFL draft, it was the dream scenario for all Bears' fans that somehow the Bears would be able to land Caleb Williams and somehow get Rome Odunze with the 9th pick. What we learned is that it was a dream shared by the Bears' front office. "Can you believe this man", Head Coach Matt Eberflus is seen saying to Rome on the phone telling him he was about to be a Chicago Bear. Ryan is later seen hugging others sounding relieved saying, "we didn't have to give up anything," which confirms what he had said in the post-draft press conference about being tempted to trade up for Odunze.

Later, Kevin Warren is seen having a conversation with Poles asking him if he remembered what they both had hoped would be the "perfect day" and Ryan confirms and reiterates, "we didn't have to give up anything."

The video was a nice glimpse of what is going on within the Bears organization, which traditionally has been one that is very private. There's a reason they are one of only a small handful of teams that have not been featured on HBO's Hard Knocks. But this new strategy of giving fans this sort of content is going to be welcomed by the fanbase everywhere.

The Bears got their guys, now it's time to take the next step and win with them.
