The Chicago Bears announced they are signing former New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman, Byron Cowart, to a one-year contract.
Cowart hasn't played in the NFL since 2022. He spent time training with the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans since. Then the Miami Dolphins signed Cowart to their practice squad for the 2023-24 season.
The Patriots selected Byron Cowart 159th overall in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft. After appearing in 19 games with New England, registering one sack and 29 tackles, the Patriots waived him.
The Colts picked Cowart up in 2022 and he played in all 17 games, heavily split between defense and special teams.
The 27-year-old stands 6-foot-3 and weighs over 300 pounds. He provides depth for the Chicago Bears at the defensive tackle position after losing Justin Jones to free agency.
