The Chicago Bears made some rumored moves official on Thursday, signing a pair of players to the roster. Per the Bears, they have signed RB Salvon Ahmed and DB Anthony Johnson Jr. to contracts. Signing reports surfaced for both of these players earlier in the week, with the organization making those moves official.

To accomadate the moves, the Bears waived RB Deion Hankins and placed P Tory Taylor on the NFL’s international exemption list, which excludes him from the 90-man roster count in the offseason.

RB Salvon Ahmed

Salvon Ahmed has been with a number of organizations since entering the league in 2020. Ahmed has signed contracts with the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers, and Miami Dolphins in his career. However, he has only seen game action with the Dolphins. Over 38 career games, Ahmed has posted 593 rushing yards on 163 attempts, five rushing touchdowns, 40 receptions, 274 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown in his career. He last saw game action in 2023 with Miami.

Ahmed split time with the Dolphins and Broncos in 2024, landing on Denver’s practice squad in October after Miami released him. Then, in 2025, Ahmed spent the entire season on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad, but failed to suit up in a game.

During his time with Miami, Ahmed crossed paths with new Bears RB coach Eric Studesville. This is a solid depth move for a coach who knows Ahmed and the backfield now has a depth veteran who knows what to expect when he shows up for camp.

DB Anthony Johnson Jr.

As for Anthony Johnson Jr., the safety has also spent time with a number of organizations. Johnson Jr. spent 2025 with the New York Giants, but spent the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Before that, he spent the 2024 season with the Giants as well, appearing in nine games.

Johnson Jr.’s most notable season came in 2023 with the Green Bay Packers. The DB appeared in 12 games, including four starts, racking up an interception, three passes defended, and 24 combined tackles.

Johnson Jr. is another player that the Bears’ staff is familiar with. Just like Ahmed spending time with Studesville in Miami, Johnson Jr. was a practice squad player in New Orleans with Dennis Allen back in 2023. The familiarity with the scheme on defense makes the signing an easy one to understand and appreciate.
