Colston Loveland made a lot of noise in his rookie season last year. He quickly established himself as the future of the Chicago Bears at tight end, finishing with 58 receptions for 713 yards and six touchdowns. The former Michigan Wolverines star became Ben Johnson’s first pick, and he recently sent a strong message to his head coach.

Loveland started this season slow but has picked up the pace in the last three games. He played his best game of the year in Week 4 against the New York Jets. The 22-year-old recorded six catches for 57 yards in the 23-12 win. However, he struggled along with his teammates last Sunday, producing just two receptions for 19 yards. The Bears’ two-game winning streak was snapped 31-7 by the Green Bay Packers and they dropped to a 3-2 record.

Chicago Bears: Colston Loveland speaks on playing for Ben Johnson

Johnson showed a lot of belief in Loveland as Chicago selected him at No. 10 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. Former NFL running back Mark Ingram II asked him about how hard he wants to play for the second-year head coach.

“You want to give it all, especially the mindset he has and the warrior mindset, like, dominating,” Loveland said. “It’s like, man, that’s someone we want to rally behind and we want to play for, for sure.”

Loveland and the Bears will return to action on Sunday versus the Atlanta Falcons. They will travel to Mercedes-Benz Stadium looking to get back to their winning ways. Caleb Williams, who has missed the last three games due to a hamstring injury, could play, giving the team a huge boost. His connection with Loveland will be key in securing a road win and improving to 4-2. A home matchup with the New England Patriots follows in Week 7.
