Bears TE duo already proving to be a huge problem for opposing defenses that no one is talking about in 2024

The Chicago Bears have made multiple major additions this offseason, especially on offense, to help get the franchise back into a contender status.

A lot of the headlines in Chicago have surrounded the team's new franchise quarterback in first overall pick Caleb Williams and the team's elite trio of wide receivers in DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and first round pick Rome Odunze.

While those four players will make for some exciting football in Chicago, everyone seems to be forgetting another prominent member of the offense and another free agent acquisition that will make an immediate difference on that side of the ball.

Those two players are the Bears' tight end duo in Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett, who have already shown to be making some splashes during practice at OTAs, reminding everyone that they can each be a weapon in this offense as well.

The first clip fans finally got from OTAs, since there hasn't been any media allowed at Halas Hall all week, featured Williams rolling out and tossing a perfect ball over the head of slot cornerback Kyler Gordon to Everett, allowing him to go up and make the catch. Everett has always been a freak athlete for his size in the NFL, but seeing this play really demonstrated his freakish talents.

As for the team's other tight end, we finally got to see some Williams to Kmet passes in action for the first time, with this play between getting leaked on X.

Under new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, the tight end duo of Kmet and Everett are going to be used frequently and could be more important to Williams' development and success than the wide receiver trio in Chicago.

During the 2023 season in Seattle, Waldron's offense ran the second-highest percentage of 12 personnel formations (one running back, two tight ends, and two receivers) and the tenth-highest percentage of 13 personnel formations (one running back, three tight ends, and one receiver).

"I think the way he uses tight ends is really cool," Kmet said while appearing on the "Up and Adams Show" with Kay Adams. "He really schemes it up for your skillset. I'm excited to get in camp and show him what I can do and how we can formulate the best offense possible this season."

Waldron's prior success working with tight ends in the league will be a major boost to Kmet and Everett, who will be reuniting with Waldron after spending five seasons together with the Los Angeles Rams and in Seattle.

"Shane's confidence is evident, especially with the places he's been and the success he's had," Everett said via the team's website. "Every OC, every play caller has a different set of tools and they're able to deploy them in different ways. When I was at the Rams and I saw how Shane would isolate me and use me in ways that I wasn't used in college and I was actually productive with him, that's when I really became a big fan of Shane. And he's an even better person off the field and away from the facility. He's a real guy, and it only makes you want to play for guys like that."

If these two tight ends can establish themselves as reliable, sure-handed targets, for their new rookie quarterback, it will do wonders toward creating a sense of trust within the offense to look toward. While the big plays and downfield shots to the wide receivers will be fun, developing a connection with Kmet and Everett is what can truly unlock the Bears' offense into something that will be near impossible to defend.
