Bears to Interview Chargers WR Coach Chris Beatty
Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears are continuing to add to their coaching staff and now they're looking to improve the wide receivers room. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Bears are interviewing Los Angeles Chargers coach Chris Beatty.

Who Is Chris Beatty?

Beatty has spent the last three years as the Chargers wide receivers coach. In that span, the Chargers led the AFC in receptions among wide receivers and they accounted for nearly 6,300 receiving yards, second in the conference.

Beatty has worked with Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, DeAndre Carter, and Joshua Palmer. The core four receivers in Los Angeles each surpassed 500 yards and at least three touchdowns in 2022, leading the Chargers to the No. 1 ranked passing offense at the time.

Mike Williams set a career-best 76 catches and nine touchdowns in 2021 when Beatty first arrived in Los Angeles. On the other side of the offensive line, Keenan Allen recorded over 100 receptions, nearly 1,200 yards, and six scores in the same season and was nominated to his fifth Pro Bowl.

Beatty also worked in similar roles at the collegiate level. For the University of Pittsburgh, Beatty worked with receivers Maurice Ffrench and Taysir Mack who combined for 159 receptions, the most in the ACC in 2019.

Beatty also spent three years at the University of Maryland where he worked with current Chicago Bears wide receiver, DJ Moore. His recruiting and development helped Moore win the Big Ten Wide Receiver of the Year in 2017.

The Bears are interviewing Beatty to coach the wide receivers in Chicago. With his already existing relationship with Moore and the likelihood of drafting a pass-catcher high in the 2024 NFL Draft, this hire could be a huge game-changer.
