Bears to Sign LB T.J. Edwards to Three-Year Deal
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Bears are on the board early in the negotiation period, adding former Eagles LB T.J. Edwards on a three-year deal.

The NFL negotiation window opened at 11:00 a.m. CDT on Monday and the Chicago Bears wasted no time making the first signing of the day. According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, former Philadelphia Eagles LB T.J. Edwards is signing a three-year deal with the Bears.

Edwards' contract is for three years at $19.5 million with $12 of that guaranteed. Coming in at around $6.5 million per season, the Bears receive great value for the 26-year-old linebacker.

In 17 games, Edwards had a career-high 143 total tackles last season in Philadelphia. The prior year, he recorded 122 total tackles. The Wisconsin product is now bringing his talents to the Windy City.

Worth noting, Edwards is a hometown kid. From Lake Villa, IL, Edwards now gets to play for his hometown Bears for the next three years. Entering his prime going into his fifth season, Edwards is the first spark of the offseason for Ryan Poles and company following their deal with the first overall pick

With the most cap space in the NFL, the Bears are expected to be active. Edwards is merely the first move Ryan Poles will make in the free agency period.
