Bears to start Andy Dalton vs. Giants, Justin Fields questionable with ankle injury

The Chicago Bears will start a different quarterback for the second straight week, but it won't be rookie Justin Fields.

As Jason Lieser explained for the Chicago Sun-Times, veteran Andy Dalton will return under center this Sunday when the 5-10 Bears host the lowly New York Giants (4-11). Dalton, who began the season as Chicago's QB1 until he was replaced by Fields, missed last Sunday's win over the Seattle Seahawks with groin and hand injuries.

Nick Foles started that game and helped the Bears earn a 25-24 victory. Fields, meanwhile, was sidelined with an ankle injury and hasn't been a full participant in practices this week. Chicago head coach Matt Nagy told reporters Foles will be Dalton's backup, which suggests Fields will stay a spectator through the first Sunday of 2022.

Thus far this season, Dalton has connected on 98-of-153 passes (64.1%) for 1,017 yards with six touchdowns, six interceptions, a 79.9 passer rating and 38.1 total QBR, per ESPN stats. Fields, meanwhile, is questionable for Sunday, which leaves his status for the regular-season finale at the Minnesota Vikings on Jan. 9 in question.
