During each interview, Johnson was asked various questions about the players, locker room, plans for Caleb Williams, and even his history in Detroit. Several takeaways were consistently present in all of his appearances.

This is Where He Wants To Be

Ben Johnson repeatedly mentioned his love for the city and the franchise. From going to Cubs games in the summer with his family to feeling the aura of the Bears when he walked into Halas Hall, you could tell that this was the job he genuinely wanted. He made it a point to talk about the talent on the roster, specifically Caleb Williams, and his desire to stay in the division because he believes it's the best in football.

Bringing His Own Style

Johnson had several opportunities to piggyback off his processes and playbooks in Detroit, but each time, he talked about how every team and every player is different. He made it a point to say how he won't just implement the same playbook that brought him so much success in the past but how it is about ripping it all down to the studs and building it back up with the roster and the team.

Caleb Williams Was a X-Factor

Unsurprisingly, quarterback Caleb Williams would play a huge role as the Chicago Bears' next head coach. The Bears front office repeatedly preached that Williams' development was paramount and that the new staff would need a precise plan. This also made the job opening a massive draw for all coaches, including Johnson. Johnson lauded Williams' talent and talked about how he would challenge Williams to be the best version of himself, which is music to every Bears fan's ears.

The Timing Was Right

Johnson was no stranger to having his name thrown around coaching vacancies. During the 2024 offseason, the offensive coordinator was linked to several jobs before returning to the Detroit Lions. Johnson was candid about his mental space and how much more difficult the interview process was last year compared to this year. One of the main reasons was that the Lions had a bye week this year. This allowed Johnson to be present during the interviews while not taking time away from his responsibilities of preparing his offense to face the Washington Commanders a week later.
