The Aaron Rodgers era is about to officially begin for the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is just days away, with Pittsburgh scheduled to lock horns with Rodgers’ former team, the New York Jets, this coming Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
Rodgers becomes the Steelers’ No. 1 quarterback after Pittsburgh decided to give the future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback a try, signing the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player to a one-year $13.65 contract in the offseason.
At 41 years old (about to turn 42 in December), it is safe to say that Rodgers’ best days as a football player are already behind him. That being said, many still view him as an upgrade over what the Steelers had under center in 2024, when the team used Justin Fields and Russell Wilson as starters.
In 2024, Rodgers showed he can still do it at the highest level despite his age, as he passed for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns with 11 interceptions while completing 63.0 percent of his throws with the Jets.
During a recent episode of his Footbahlin podcast, former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger touched on the subject of Pittsburgh’s game against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4 of the 2025 NFL campaign.
Pittsburgh and Minnesota are set to face off in an overseas game at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland, on Sept. 27, and for Roethlisberger, Rodgers and the Steelers will come away with the win versus JJ McCarthy and company. Big Ben also said that Aaron [Rodgers] is going to be the difference in that game,” (h/t Ross McCorkle of Steelers Depot).
