The Pittsburgh Steelers couldn't get much going in Week 13. Aaron Rodgers looked frustrated, the receivers couldn't create separation and two turnovers ultimately led to a 26-7 home loss.
Rodgers later called out some of his teammates and expressed his discomfort with the offense. That's why it's not much of a surprise to hear that he might be taking matters into his own hands.
On Tuesday's edition of his "Footbahlin" podcast, Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger revealed that Rodgers started calling his own plays at some point in the Week 13 game.
"I’ve heard some things that Aaron [Rodgers], this last game, when they finally moved the ball, Aaron was just calling plays," Roethlisberger said. "Maybe it’s one of those situations where we unhook the helmet and let Aaron do his thing."
This isn't anything new. Rodgers usually called his own audibles when Nathaniel Hackett left the Green Bay Packers, and he didn't seem to be on the same page with Matt LaFleur at times.
Arthur Smith has been under heavy fire for calling an outdated and somewhat predictable offense. While the Steelers don't have that much talent on that side of the field, it still feels like they should do better.
Rodgers isn't getting any younger, and expecting him to be an MVP candidate again simply isn't realistic. That being said, he's one of the greatest passers this game has ever seen, and he knows a thing or two about reading coverages. This might be the only way to get this offense going after all.
