The Cincinnati Bengals have done their best to stay afloat since star quarterback Joe Burrow got injured, but at 3-6, they are running out of time. Luckily, they got some good news this week, as Burrow returned to practice.
The turf toe injury he suffered was expected to keep him out until December, but it's looking possible that his return could come sooner. However, the Bengals still have to wait a bit longer.
Any hopes that Burrow could potentially play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11 were quickly dashed. The Bengals officially announced on their injury report that Burrow has been ruled out.
This isn't a surprise, and Joe Flacco has been playing well. It makes more sense to give Burrow all the time he needs. That said, falling to 3-7 would make a playoff push much more difficult. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Burrow is hoping to return in Week 13.
“Joe Burrow has officially returned to practice with the Bengals opening his 21 day window to return from IR and his turf toe injury,” Schultz said. “Joe is targeting a Thanksgiving Day comeback game to go up against the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore. Now listen, this is surprising. This is incredibly early. Not only because of the caliber of injury, but just the timeline we all thought, which was basically mid-December.”
It remains to be seen if the Bengals will still be in the playoff mix by Thanksgiving, but they can at least rest easier knowing that Burrow's return is near.
