The Cincinnati Bengals faced the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, looking to start the season 2-0.

With 8:36 left in the second quarter and the Jaguars leading 14-7, Joe Burrow tried to escape the pass rush but was sacked. As he went down, he stayed on the ground in visible pain. After several moments, he got up and headed to the locker room with assistance.

He was listed as questionable to return for most of the game but was eventually ruled out with a toe injury.

The Bengals went on to win 31-27 with Jake Browning filling in for Burrow. Browning finished the game completing 21-of-32 passes for 241 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

While the locker room was happy after the win, players were still concerned about Burrow’s injury, including wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

"Mixed emotions," Chase told the media. "Anxious to find out what’s going on."

Burrow and Chase were the top quarterback-wide receiver duo in 2024, and it’s clear Chase is at his best with his former LSU teammate throwing to him. In seven career games without Burrow, Chase has topped 100 receiving yards just once. With Burrow, he has 19 games of 100 yards or more.

It's unclear the severity of Burrow's injury, but it will be a story moving forward this week before the Bengals take on the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday. Kickoff for that one is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
