Bengals’ Orlando Brown Jr. reveals he missed birth of son to play in Week 16 vs. Steelers
Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports

As Orlando Brown Jr. was in Pittsburgh preparing with his Cincinnati Bengals teammates to face the Steelers, his fiancée, Holly Luyah’s water broke two weeks early on the morning of the game, and after playing in the game, he was on FaceTime watching her give birth to their second son, Sonny.

“I’m thankful she understands, and my family understands,” Orlando Brown Jr. said, via Jay Morrison of Pro Football Network. “For me, football is kind of everything right now. You don’t really get this opportunity back. You don’t get the opportunity to see a birth, either. For me, it was important to be there with the guys in Pittsburgh and to be out there with them.”

The Bengals were playing a crucial game against the Steelers when it came to the AFC wild card picture, and Cincinnati ended up losing the game 34-11. Brown believed it was necessary for him to be out there with his team. However, given the circumstances, Brown might not have been as worried about the loss as his teammates, and understandably so.

As Brown and Holly Luyah welcome Sonny into the world, Brown and his Bengals will hope to bounce back and clinch a wild card spot. Up next is the Kansas City Chiefs, which is always a tough matchup, especially on the road. However, Cincinnati will need to win this game, and possibly the last game of the year against the Cleveland Browns as well, to get into the playoffs.

Regardless, Brown will be celebrating a new member of the family.
