Bengals take notable interest in unique tight end projected to go late in the NFL Draft

Tight end is a position the Cincinnati Bengals are expected to target in the NFL Draft, even if it's late in the weekend.

South Carolina tight end Trey Knox told NFL Draft analyst Justin Melo that he met with the Bengals in-person leading up to his pro day earlier this month.

Knox finished his college career with South Carolina, but started it at Arkansas as a wide receiver. He eventually made the transition to tight end the year before transferring within the SEC.

Cincinnati would be an interesting landing spot for Knox. Two-thirds of the Bengals' tight end room is comprised of big-bodied receivers who catch the ball much better than they block.

Knox's size and past experience could limit him as a complete tight end, but he has production at the position. He caught the second-most touchdowns (five) for the Razorbacks in 2022, and notched career-highs in receptions (37) and yards (312) for the Gamecocks in 2023.

Knox and his fellow former Gamecocks looking to go pro worked out in front of Cincinnati and other NFL clubs on March 12. He ran the short shuttle in 4.47 seconds and jumped 34" on the vertical at 6-3, 234 pounds.

His 4.91 40-yard dash, however, is a red flag that may scare off teams from drafting him early. He's ranked 313rd on the Consensus Big Board.

Knox won't hear his name called early in the draft, but with 10 picks to play with, the Bengals could give him a call as the weekend comes to a close to round out the position.
