The Cincinnati Bengals advanced to what became a Super Bowl matchup against the Los Angeles Rams via Sunday's comeback win at the Kansas City Chiefs but endured a different type of loss in the AFC Championship when tight end C.J. Uzomah suffered a knee injury and was carted off the field.
It appears the Bengals received good news at the start of their week.
Per Ben Baby of ESPN, Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor confirmed on Monday that Uzomah is dealing with a sprained MCL in his left knee but that early tests were "encouraging" regarding the 29-year-old's potential availability for the big game two Sundays down the road.
Uzomah went down in the first quarter after he attempted to catch a pass that ultimately fell incomplete. He was able to return to the sidelines to watch the important moments from Cincinnati's victory at Arrowhead Stadium.
As noted by the NFL's website, Uzomah enjoyed the best regular season of his career and was a favorite target for second-year quarterback Joe Burrow during the postseason before Sunday's events. According to ESPN stats, Uzomah is tied for third on the Bengals across the playoffs with 13 catches and is third with 16 targets and 135 receiving yards. He's one of four Cincinnati players with a touchdown reception during the postseason tournament.
