Best prospect at each position in the 2019 NFL Draft

The 2019 NFL Draft is set to take place April 25-27. Here's a look at the best prospect at each position heading into draft day.

1 of 16

Quarterback: Kyler Murray, Oklahoma

Likely the first overall pick in the draft, Murray is a once-in-a-generation athlete who was taken in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Oakland A's but opted to play professional football instead after his 2018 Heisman Trophy campaign. While undersized at 5-foot-10, Murray completed 69 percent of his passes last season and also rushed for more than 1,000 yards.

Running back: Josh Jacobs, Alabama

Jacobs is the most capable three-down back available and probably the only one with a chance to be drafted in the first round. He never had more than 140 touches in a season at Alabama, but that's seen as a plus since he should have plenty of mileage left for the NFL.

Wide receiver: D.K. Metcalf, Ole Miss

The son of former NFL player Terrence Metcalf, D.K. Metcalf is a chiseled 6-foot-3 deep threat who ran the 40-yard dash in a blazing 4.33 seconds at the combine. While he had injury issues in college, Metcalf averaged 18.3 yards per reception and could be an immediate impact player on deep routes.

Tight end: T.J. Hockenson, Iowa

Hockenson has the potential to go in the top 10 picks of the draft after a huge sophomore season at Iowa, with 760 yards and six touchdowns. He's ready to play both as a receiver and blocker, which is more than most tight end prospects can say coming out of college.

Offensive tackle: Jawaan Taylor, Florida

Taylor is considered an immediate starter at right tackle and a plus blocker both in the run and the pass. He handled elite pass rushers well playing in the SEC and doesn't have durability concerns.

Offensive guard: Chris Lindstrom, Boston College

The son of a former Boston College lineman, Lindstrom is an excellent run blocker with plenty of athleticism. He's one of the few interior linemen in this year's draft with a first-round grade.

Center: Garrett Bradbury, NC State

Bradbury transitioned from tight end to guard to athletic center in college. His lack of height at 6-foot-3 is less of a concern at center, and he can be a mauling run blocker immediately.

Defensive tackle: Quinnen Williams, Alabama

Arguably the best prospect in the entire 2019 draft, Williams emerged as a dominant force for the Crimson Tide last season with 71 tackles, including 19.5 for loss, and eight sacks in 15 games. He was younger than most of the competition and has Aaron Donald upside.

Defensive end: Nick Bosa, Ohio State

Bosa missed most of last season due to injury, but he still had four sacks in only three games after recording 8.5 sacks in 2017. The younger brother of Chargers star pass rusher Joey Bosa, Nick is a similarly skilled edge rusher.

Middle linebacker: Devin White, LSU

White had a total of 256 tackles over the last two seasons at LSU and then proceeded to clean up at the combine with an amazing 4.42-second 40-yard dash. He's a likely top 10 pick, if not top five.

11 of 16

Outside linebacker: Josh Allen, Kentucky

Allen was a terror for defenses to stop as a pass rusher, recording 17 sacks and 88 tackles for the Wildcats last season. After an excellent combine, Allen is likely a top five pick in this year's draft.

Cornerback: Greedy Williams, LSU

Williams is a big press cornerback who has a nose for the football with eight interceptions over the last two seasons. The big knock on Williams is tackling, but his sub-4.4-second 40 time should partially make up for that shortcoming.

Safety: Johnathan Abram, Mississippi State

Abram isn't afraid to lay a hit and was a playmaking machine for the Bulldogs last season. He finished with 99 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions as the anchor of the Mississippi State defense and can also perform in coverage.

Kicker: Matt Gay, Utah

Gay is a capable NFL starter who made all of his extra points in college and also converted more than 86 percent of his field goals. His leg provides ample distance, making 3-of-5 attempts from 50-plus yards last season.

15 of 16

Punter: Mitch Wishnowsky, Utah

Wishnowsky averaged 45.7 yards per punt during his three years as a starting punter at Utah. He's a capable directional kicker who should hear his name called in the draft.

Returner: Mecole Hardman, Georgia

Hardman is going to take some time to develop as a wide receiver, but he can help a team in the return game immediately. He ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the combine and averaged 20.1 yards per punt return with one touchdown last year.
