Three days of free agency are out of the way, and now that the new league year has started, all transactions from here on out are official. There are still plenty of holes the Lions need to fill, and there are still plenty of players left who can fill them. Let's talk about some more of them.
Note: Some of these experts are from Tuesday and Wednesday's list of best players remaining
This one just makes too much sense. Jordan is finally about to leave New Orleans, and the best place for him to go, in my opinion, is Detroit. A defense that knows how to use him and is built based on Dennis Allen’s defense in New Orleans. The Lions could do a one-year deal, and Jordan can put up numbers as he did in 2025, while also being a guiding light for the rookie edge the Lions are expected to draft.
This makes the most sense. Even more sense than Jordan. Muhammad has been good for the Lions. Just bringing him back and have him rotate in with that rookie edge rusher the Lions are likely to draft. He’s also probably going to be a pretty affordable option.
He's become a gun for hire in the last decade, playing for seven different teams since he was the first pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He's still playing really well at every stop. Last season in Dallas, he had 40 pressures and nine sacks for the Cowboys. He's a perfect candidate for a one-year deal.
He can pass block, he can run block, and he can be a playmaker. It’s the perfect fit for the Lions offense with and without Sam LaPorta. That is, if the Lions see tight end as a position they’d like to fill in free agency. There are some good prospects in the draft who fit.
He's not a big pass-catching option for the Lions, although he did show some of that with the Colts. He is one of the better blocking tight ends left in free agency at this point, and we know the Lions could use an upgrade there.
We don’t know what the Lions’ safety room is going to look like at the start of the season. What we do know is that some depth would be good, and Brisker can come in and start right away if the Lions have to wait on Brian Branch or Kerby Joseph.
How about a reunion for the Lions and Iffey? He can be a solid depth piece for the Lions at this point, and if the Lions want to bring back that safety blitz, Melifonwu can still very much provide that for Detroit.
The Lions need a slot corner, and there are going to be options in the draft, but McCreary is a guy who can probably start right away for Detroit in that role and play it very well. He’s mostly been a rotational player with the Titans and Rams, but he’s done it well. He had a 79.4 coverage grade with L.A. last year. That’s pretty good.
