'Big bad Chiefs' - Travis Kelce puts an end to growing 'America's Team' reference for Kansas City

The Dallas Cowboys have been known as 'America's Team' since the term was first coined by Bob Ryan, a producer for NFL Films, in 1978. However, it seems an argument could be made that it's now the Kansas City Chiefs' turn.

Especially considering they have won three Super Bowls in five years.

But, Travis Kelce isn't having it. He's happy with just being known was the Chiefs

"I'm kind of out on the whole 'America's Team' deal, I don't give a f*** about that sh**," Kelce said on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast. "I want to be Kansas City. I want to be the Chiefs, man. I want to be the big bad Chiefs."

The concept was initially brought up by NFL Vice President of Broadcast Operations Mike North, who made a bold statement regarding the reason the Chiefs received seven prime-time games during the 2025 season.

"I think if anybody's paid attention, that's sort of what the Kansas City Chiefs schedule is these days. What have they won, three of the last six Super Bowls. That puts you into a non-routine scheduling formula," North said on Up & Adams. "Sunday's at noon are rare. There are actually four or five of them this year which is probably more then they're probably used to."

"The Chiefs have almost kind of surpassed the Cowboys as the bell cow," he added. "This is what happens when your pop culture is part of the fabric of the country right now. And this is par for the course for the Chiefs."

But, we have to agree with Kelce on this one.

"The big bad Chiefs" has a much better ring to it than 'America's Team.' Plus, that term is a little worn out... don't you think?
