Wednesday morning went from quiet to crazy in seconds after ESPN released a shocking story that detailed why future Hall of Fame coach Bill Belichick was left without a job for the 2024 season.
After he "mutually parted ways" with the New England Patriots, Belichick seemed to be getting a lot of interest. And the one team that seemed to be all in on him was the Atlanta Falcons.
But they ultimately went in a different direction, as did every other team that had an opening.
ESPN's story included tons of important information, so here are the biggest takeaways:
Falcons owner Arthur Blank reached out to Robert Kraft, asking him all about Bill Belichick. And while the Patriots owner claims he only said good things, this report details that it isn't the case at all.
Robert Kraft had a bold admission about Belichick that might have completely altered Blank's decision.
Belichick had numerous meetings with the Falcons, one of which took place on Blank's 295-foot, $180 million superyacht. And it all seemed to go really well.
But in the end, the Falcons hired Raheem Morris, leaving Belichick without a job. It was a move he didn't see coming.
Despite all the reported interest in Belichick, when it came down the logistics, Belichick wasn't even in their top three candidates.
After not getting a coaching job, Belichick is turning his attention to television, set to become an analyst. However, he isn't giving up one a coaching career just yet.
There were three teams that Belichick had the most interest in when he became a free agent. And one of those teams might be his only chance to continue as an NFL head coach.
Kraft has been fed up with Belichick for a little while it seems. And he even wanted to get rid of the head coach a little before he actually did.
However, Belichick had a surprise ally that advocated for him to remain.
